Obama Girls Visit the Land of Hogwarts, Celebrate Sasha's Birthday
Harry Potter fans are a diverse group: young and old, male and female, American and English. Some are even Presidential, well at least by association, like President Barack Obama's daughter Sasha, who was invited to the set of the latest Harry Potter film for her 8th birthday. Sasha, along with her sister, mother and grandmother met Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe and author of the mega-popular series, J.K. Rowling, who hosted her birthday party held on set at Leavesden Studios, 20 miles outside of London.
The Obama girls have been in Europe since Saturday, when they attended the commemoration of the 65th anniversary of D-Day in Normandy, France with the President. While Obama had other matters to attend to at home, Sasha, Malia, Michelle and her Mother Marian Robinson stayed in London sightseeing.
On Monday, the family looked around at Westminster Abbey, admired Big Ben and dinned at Audley in Mayfair. Tuesday, they went to a performance of "The Lion King" at the Lyceum Theatre. While the little Obamas enjoyed the show, the crowd of 2,000 was buzzing about their presence.
Wrapping up their overseas excursion was an experience Sasha and Malia will never forget, witnessing first hand the big screen conclusion to Rowling's series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows." Fans have a long wait ahead of them for the film, which will be released in two parts, the first in November 2010 and the second in July 2011. Let's just hope Sasha and Malia don't learn to blog in between now and then and ruin the surprise with spoilers.
