Obama Interview Pulls Higest Ratings Ever for the Daily Show
Wednesday night saw the highest ratings ever for Comedy Central's The Daily Show, passing the previous record set by Michelle Obama on October 8. Jon Stewart, host of the comedy news program, interviewed Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama during the 11 p.m. episode of the program; over 3.8 million viewers tuned in.
Obama was in Florida campaigning, and Stewart joked early on about the retirement population there. Stewart also asked Obama if winning the election would show a mandate for socialism among voters.
Obama replied, "The whole socialism argument, that doesn't fly too well with me. . . . I think they found proof that when I was in Kindergarten I shared some toys with my friends, and that's clearly a sign of subversive activity."
When asked about campaign tensions, and the future of Obama's working relaitonship with Republican candidate John McCain, Obama called McCain a "genuine war hero."
Obama was in Florida on a last minute campaign through the state before the November 4 presidential election.
