Obama Picks Up More Delegates

Barack Obama gained former Edwards delegates during the Iowa county convention.

According to ABC News, Presidential candidate Barack Obama picked up nine more delegates in Iowa as a result of John Edwards's delegates being reallocated.

More than half of the Iowa delegates that were originally for Edwards switched to Obama, Saturday, at a county convention. Some delegates have decided to stay with Edwards, based on the results from their January caucuses, even though Edwards has dropped out of the race.

"Barack Obama stands for a lot of the same things that John Edwards stood for," said Ro Foege, a state legislator who switched to Obama.

The county convention pushed Obama's Iowa total to 25, Hillary Clinton at 14, and Edwards hanging on to 6, according to the New York Daily News.

"This is a very significant improvement for us in terms of the delegate situation," said Obama campaign manager David Plouffe.

Iowa's January caucus results stated 39 percent backed Obama, 30 percent for Edwards, and 29 percent for Clinton.
