Obama Retakes Oath
In case you missed it, Barack Obama was sworn into Presidency on Tuesday, just after noon, eastern time. Though the event was mostly flawless, it did include some controversy; Obama biffed the actual oath.
This led to a lot of questioning from the media and the public. If he recited an incorrect rendition of the presidential oath, did Barack Obama really become our 44th President?
The oath that people must take to become President of the United States is written in the Constitution itself, and is administered verbatim by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In the case of Obama's inauguration, Chief Justice John Roberts put the word "faithfully" out of sequence after Obama accidentally interrupted him.
As the New York Daily News reports, on Wednesday evening at 7:35 p.m., Obama retook the oath in the White House. It was once again given by Chief Justice John Roberts, and this time it was done correctly.
When asked if he was ready, Obama said, "I am, and we're going to do it very slowly."
