Obama Signs Bill to Insure More Children

President Obama signed a bill which extends health insurance coverage to 4 million more children in the U.S.

President Barack Obama signed a bill today that provides health insurance to approximately 4 million previously uninsured children across the United States. The bill, which was twice before vetoed by former President George W. Bush, will provide $32.8 billion in additional spending to the State Children's Health Insurance Program over the next five years. This news came as a relief to many parents who wondered how they would provide private health insurance for their children in the face of the economic crisis which has left many parents without jobs and benefits. At the signing of the bill, Obama said, "We are not a nation that leaves struggling families to fend for themselves." He said that the passing of this bill was a "downpayment of my commitment" to try and provide health insurance for every American citizen.
