Obama's Latest on Stem Cell Research

Obama lifts restrictions on funding for stem cell research.

President Obama has assured the nation, on Monday, that although he has cleared the way for stem cell research, the government is not anticipating human cloning anytime in the near or distant future, according to Fox News.

"We cannot ever tolerate misuse or abuse. And we will ensure that our government never opens the door to the use of cloning for human reproduction. It is dangerous, profoundly wrong, and has no place in our society, or any society," said Obama.

Concern over the morality of stem cell research has been a major hurtle that medical researchers have been fighting to overcome. Obama has assured citizens that the research's singular goal is to find better treatments for diseases like diabetes and Parkinson's disease.

Obama promises that the move to federally fund stem cell research has nothing to do with morality.

"In recent years, when it comes to stem cell research, rather than furthering discovery, our government has forced what I believe is a false choice between sound science and moral values. In this case, I believe the two are inconsistent," said Obama.

The new president is bridging the bipartisan gap through this and other pieces of legislation, aiming to base the administration's policies on sound science and not politics, according to Fox News.
