O'Brien, NBC Will Bid Farewell Soon

Comedian and staff will get exit packages, Leno will get what he already had.

It appears Jay Leno is getting his way. An unidentified source told ABC News Conan O’Brien and NBC are close to completing a deal that would end O’Brien’s contract, freeing him and his staff from the feathered network’s chokehold.

The source said O’Brien would receive an exit package between $30 and $40 million, and The Tonight Show staffers will be awarded severance and buy-outs. Most staffers relocated their lives and families from New York to Los Angeles for the show.

Negotiations reportedly began last Wednesday, and O’Brien’s team is trying to ensure the entire staff is “treated really well,” the source told ABC. Some staffers were toward the end of their contracts with NBC, but others had no contractual agreements.

The deal would allow O’Brien to join another network in the fall and Leno to return to his old time slot. FOX has been the rumored go-to channel for the red-haired comedian. O’Brien has yet to announce his future plans.

This news comes a week after O’Brien released a public statement rejecting NBC’s idea of moving him to 12:05 a.m. ABC News said O’Brien’s last show will air this Friday.

Team Coco should demand a recount.
