It’s no surprise Octavia Spencer won her Best Supporting Actress category on Sunday night’s Globes, and she made sure people understood the message of The Help in her acceptance speech.

People reported the 41-year-old said one of the most timeliest speeches of the night as she spoke about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"With regard to domestics in this country, now and then, I think Dr. King said it best: 'All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance.' And I thank you for recognizing that with our film," she said.

In the The Help, Spencer plays a feisty maid who can’t seem to hold down a job because of her outspoken nature.

She added backstage that, "the narrative itself is part of our fabric. It's important to keep the younger generation abreast of how far we've come, because this is really foreign to them."

But the ceremony wasn’t all serious business for Spencer. According to the Los Angeles Times, she also wanted to be as comfortable as possible.

“I’m sorry ya’all, I love you but I have to kick these shoes off. This is the ultimate party and I’m living the dream of so many young actors and actresses out there and I’m having my Diet Pepsi alongside Hollywood’s best and brightest,” she told reporters backstage.

You do whatever you want to do Octavia because you’ve earned it.
