The Office Recap
After the opening sequence, the episode starts with Michael talking to the camera saying that today is his "B-day. Fun fact: I share my birthday with Eva Longoria. So I've got an icebreaker if I ever meet Teri Hatcher."
The party planning crew consists of Phyllis, Angela and Pam but Angela pretty much makes all the decisions. Like when Dwight comes in and says Michael wants a stripper gram and Angela says no.
Michael tricks Jan into telling him happy birthday by telling her happy birthday and then responding that he thought their birthdays were on the same day. Clever that one is.
Kevin is waiting for a call from the doctor to find out whether or not he has skin cancer. This puts a damper on Michael's birthday plans because no one pays attention to him.
Kellie says hearing about Kevin is the saddest thing ever and that she never thought of death until Princess Diana. "It was the saddest funeral ever...and my sister's."
A delivery woman comes with a package for Michael but he thinks she's the stripper and pulls up a chair and starts taking money out.
It turns out to be a gift from his mom: a James Dean poster, but he refers to him as Luke Perry.
Pam thinks her and Jim should sneak away and try to buy things for Kevin to make him feel better but they need a distraction. Meanwhile, Dwight is trying to get everyone to create Michael's birth because this was the exact moment he was born. Distraction...check.
We find out "F" is Dwight's version of a cuss word.
Jim and Pam are at the store and buy some of Kevin's favorite things like American Pie 2 and 69 Cups of Noodles because it's his favorite number and favorite lunch.
Michael is again mad that his birthday isn't fun and Angela says, "No one cares about your birthday. Kevin's waiting to hear if he has skin cancer." To which Michael replies, "That's terrible news for BOTH of us."
He also adds that it's not brain cancer and shouldn't stop them from having fun. He decides to take them somewhere fun and swears it has nothing to do with his birthday.
They go to an ice skating rink and when they walk in there's a banner hanging to celebrate Michael's birthday.
Michael shows off his hockey skills and tells the camera that he chose not to join the NHL because they're gone all the time and you don't get to see you wife and kids. He wants a wife and kids.
Cute Jam moment alert! (Jam = Jim and Pam for those of you not in the know). Jim holds Pam's hand as she's skating to make sure she doesn't fall. Aww.
Michael skates up to Pam and tells her in light of Kevin's cancer she should check herself in the shower because "those things are like ticking time bags," referring to her breasts as I'm sure you could guess.
Kevin gets his results. They're negative. Michael starts to get sad and gives him a hug and says they'll get through it. Michael doesn't understand that negative results are a good thing. He says negative is a bad thing with everything else, so he's confused.
Pam says Michael's birthday was "a good day" and then it cuts to her shopping with Jim and them laughing together.
