O.J.'s Cancelled Book Fetching Thousands on Ebay.

Despite axed interview and book, O.J. is still making money.

According to the New York Daily News, O.J. Simpson's controversal book, "If I Did It", which was axed by distributors, has made its way onto Ebay, where bids for it are reaching thousands of dollars a copy.

At least three hardcover versions of "If I Did It", where the ex-football star explains how he theoretically would have killed his late wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman, were available, Friday, on Ebay. This caused an attorney for the Brown family to accuse Ebay of not complying with the book publisher's request to have all copies removed from its site. Lawyer Natasha Roit stated, "We really need to stem the tide and get these books out of circulation because anything that's out there now is really hurtful to family."

However, Hani Durzy, a spokesman for Ebay, claimed his company was trying to follow HarperCollins' request to have all copies removed from Ebay's auction. With more than 100 million items selling on the site at any given time, though, Durzy said it was difficult to identify and remove them.

The three books up for action received more than 100 bids, with the highest legitimate offer being $15,300. Numerous bids of $1 million were considered outrageous and bids of more than $15,000 must be verified with a credit card and identification.

A seller from Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, who claimed his highest bid was $1,400, wrote,"Save your nasty comments, you can't offend me" to people offended by the sale. Another seller from Texas, stated, "Don't judge me for selling it!"

Ronald Goldman's sister, Kim said she was not suprised by the auctions, but disappointed. She said, "That's part of why we asked News Corp. to turn over everything and to destroy all the materials they have, so that that stuff doesn't happen...but I was sure that it will get leaked out somehow."

O.J. Simpson received about $663,000 from his deal with Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. for the book and two-part television interviews on Fox, but the whole project was cancelled on Monday, due to public pressure. Simpson still owes the Goldman family $33.5 million after being charged with a wrongful death judgment in the civil trial in 1997.
