One Generous Pea

Black Eyed Pea's will.i.am offers college scholarships.

Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am loves to share the wealth. The singer and mogul is paying for the tuition, room, board, and books of four college students through his i.am scholarship fund, People magazine reports.

This year, the singer is giving five new four-year college scholarships for students majoring in film and television, journalism, motion graphics and animation, and computer science.

The magazine also says will.i.am has lined up an internship and job for each student with his social networking site Dipdive.com

But will.i.am isn’t just a source for cash: he mentors the four youths and keeps in touch via e-mail. Last week, the group attended a Black Eyed Peas concert in Philadelphia and chilled backstage before the show.

To keep the students’ grades up will.i.am promises if they get above a 2.8 G.P.A. that year they can travel anywhere in the world they want. People reports the foursome may go to Africa this summer to meet up with the band while they’re on tour.

One lucky recipient, Jaiquann Beckham, tells People he feels pressure to do well in school because he doesn’t want to disappoint will.i.am.

To be considered for the scholarship, will.i.am says to People he looks for ambition, and “anybody with a dream and a passion to go and make their dream come true.”
