Online videos might make the main stream.

An enjoyable charecter has quite a few fans.

It seems reality television got boring enough that people decided to make their own videos that people could watch online.

Long live self expression.

The latest popularity on YouTube.com, a video website that boasts a 'Broadcast Yourself' logo, is an entity named Betty Butterfield, who has over 25 videos on the site.

If you enjoy watching men in drag that have a lovely southern drawl speaking on such topics as the Catholic Church, New York City and American Idol, you'd enjoy Butterfield.

"I came across this website, and specifically these videos, from a friend. After I've seen them, it is all I want to watch after a night of drinking," said one commenter on the site.

Well, there's the fan base.

Butterfield is a mix between Mike Myer's character from the Saturday Night Live sketch 'Coffee Talk' and a bored woman who enjoys wearing sunglasses and entirely too much lipstick. Her, or should I say his, real identity is unknown.

The short videos range from Butterfield imitating drag shows, to her audition for a PSA from 1972 called "VD is for everybody," to talks on why the Catholic Church is some place she would visit again. Butterfield dons extremely large sunglasses, a fifties doo-wop wig and a string of pearls in every video.

Don't forget the lipstick.

Betty Butterfield's videos are being praised as "hilarious" and "pure genius" by viewers and are being said to become the next hamsterdance.com. If anyone remembers that horrific website and what it did to American culture as we know it, Butterfield might be the next to do the exact same thing.

Butterfield also has a website entitled shirleyqliquor.com which shows another side of what this bright young lad can do with a video camera and some makeup. He seems to have a lot more alter egos than YouTube.com knows about and were sure he is eager to show them all to anyone who will watch.

Enjoy.
