Thursday night marked the start of Britney Spears' 56-show world tour to promote her recently released Femme Fatale album. The performance took place in Sacramento's Power Balance Pavilion.
Rolling Stone reported that while the opening act, Nicki Minaj, received a positive reaction from the crowd, she did very little actual performing. Her outlandish outfit, which consisted of a blonde wig, neon-green platform shoes, and black spandex suit detailed with what looked like PVC pipes, prevented her from doing much dancing. While, like Spears, many of her vocals are pre-recorded tracks played over the speakers, there were many times when she should have been moving her lips to imitate singing or rapping but instead she just stood there motionless, not even holding the microphone up.
Regardless, this did not spoil the rest of the show. The show was as over the top as Spears' past tours, according to The Sacramento Press. As was expected, the outfits were skimpy, the choreography was spot-on, and the stage props and effects, including a massive guitar and a car with a hood that turned into steps, were mind-blowing. The sold-out show featured nine songs from Spears' new album, as well as many of her classics including "Womanizer," "Toxic," and "...Baby One More Time."
The crowd's response was reported to be overwhelmingly positive. So much so that, after the show, Spears tweeted, "Can't sleep. WAY too much adrenaline right now. Sacramento was on fire tonight...!”
