Oprah Sued over Sour Fitness Deal

Not even Oprah Winfrey is safe from being sued. Oprah’s Harpo is being sued by Unicus Performance Training (UPT) for not paying them and for reneging on a deal.

Originally, Oprah’s Harpo contracted UPT to create an exercise program for them. The company agreed and sent out tons of e-mails announcing it would soon be featured on Oprah’s radio program. While the advertisement was true, it also activated a clause in the contract UPT signed with Harpo.

The contract clause stated that if UPT spoke of its partnership with Harpo to outsiders then UPT would be immediately fired. It also states that the Harpo trademark cannot be used by UPT for promotion without written permission.

The result was that UPT’s business relationship with Winfrey was terminated immediately.

UPT, on the other hand, is saying that they never got paid for creating the workout program and are now suing Harpo.

With UPT clearly violating the confidentiality agreement they had with Oprah, their chances of succeeding in the lawsuit are slim at best.
