Oprah Winfrey "Profoundly Disappointed" That Dorm Matron Was Acquitted of Sexual Abuse Charges

According to the Associated Press, the dorm matron at Oprah Winfrey’s school in South Africa was cleared of sexual abuse charges on Monday, and the talk show host is “profoundly disappointed” about it.

Tiny Virginia Makopo was acquitted of all charges raised against her by prosecutors, claiming that she tried to kiss and fondle girls at Winfrey’s school for girls.

In addition, Makopo allegedly assaulted a supervisor and one of the teen girls.

The magistrate indicated that the state did not prove its case beyond reasonable doubt on all the charges. "We won't be appealing the judgment," Mthunzi Mhaga, a spokesman for South Africa's National Prosecuting Authority, said.

As a result, Winfrey said in a statement on Monday, “I will forever be proud of the nine girls who testified with the courage and conviction to be heard.”
