Orlando Bloom Wants in on ‘The Hobbit’

The British actor shows enthusiasm about the upcoming prequel to ‘The Lord of the Rings’

Even though concrete details about the film adaptation of ‘The Hobbit’ are very much undecided, Orlando Bloom has shown extreme interest in wanting to reprise his role as Legolas, the quiet, quick with a bow elf from the previous movies.

There’s just one problem I see with this. Being a fan of the book, I’m pretty sure Legolas does not actually have a part in ‘The Hobbit.’ Of course, since elves live to be hundreds of years old, he probably would have been alive during the events of the story, so writing him in is somewhat plausible if the writers choose to deviate from the actual book.

Production status of the film is still up in the air, much as it has been since they first talked about making ‘The Hobbit’ after the huge success of the three movies of the trilogy. Unlike ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ this movie will be directed by Guillermo del Toro instead of Peter Jackson. But Jackson should be a part of the team of writers assembling the screenplay.

Personally, I hope that Orlando Bloom does get a role in this film because he’s one of my favorite actors, and he really hasn’t had a hit since ‘Pirates of Caribbean: At World’s End.’ Since he claims that he will not be returning for the fourth installment, he really needs all the help he can get to get back in the spotlight. Bloom claims that he wants to try new roles, but I think we all know that fans love him best as Legolas and Will Turner.
