Oscar Telecast Names Producers

On Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 82nd Academy Awards telecast will be produced by Bill Mechanic and Adam Shankman.

Mechanic is the former 20th Century Fox chairman and Shankman is a judge on the show "So You Think You Can Dance" and the director of "Hairspray". In the upcoming months a host will be selected.

Tom Sherek, the president of the academy said in a statement "I've known Bill for many years so it's like putting Oscar in the care of a dear friend," and added "And Adam's experience in producing, directing and especially choreography will be a huge asset to the production."

The Academy Awards will be held in Hollywood at the Kodak Theatre on March 7, 2010. ABC will air the event.

Last year the Oscars were produced by Bill Condon and Laurence Mark, both are filmmakers.
