Oscar-winning Producer David Brown Dies
Oscar-winning producer David Brown, whose credits include Jaws, Driving Miss Daisy, and The Verdict, died at 93 from a longtime illness, BusinessWeek reports.
Brown and his business partner, Richard D. Zanuck, produced more than 30 films and were responsible for igniting Steven Spielberg’s and Elvis Presley’s film careers, BusinessWeek says. Brown won an Oscar for the 1975 Best Picture winner The Sting.
In his personal life, Brown was happily married to former Cosmopolitan editor Helen Gurley Brown for 50 years, according to BusinessWeek.
The site reports Brown started out as a journalist and even produced Broadway musicals.
Brown had four of his films nominated for Best Picture Oscars including A Few Good Men and Chocolat. Brown and Zanuck were honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award in 1990 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for their achievements as producers, per BusinessWeek.
Brown died at his home in New York.
