Out with Oprah, in with Rosie

After three years off TV, Rosie announces return to talk TV when Oprah leaves.

Rosie O'Donnell hasn't looked into a television camera since 2007, when she left The View after a heated argument with host Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Now, O'Donnell is preparing to launch a daytime syndicated talk show for the Fall of 2011, coinciding with the end of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Rosie will be producing the show with former Warner Bros. syndication president Dick Robertson and former HBO distribution president Scott Carlin. Robertson and Rosie collaborated previously for The Rosie O'Donnell Show, which had a run of six years until 2002.

Now, after a few years on the radio circuit with her Sirius Satellite show Rosie Radio, she'll be making her return on ABC.

This, of course, begs the question as to whether her 2011 launch time was plotted to fill the vacuum of Oprah's departure. The renowned host recently made the announcement that the show's 25th season would be its last.

"I love this show, this show is my life, and I love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye," Oprah said when she made the live announcement. "It's the perfect number, the exact right time," she said.

We'll see if Rosie's tendency for hot political diatribes and controversial television can put her back on the cable map next year.
