Ozzy Osbourne Sues Former Bandmate
Front man Ozzy Osbourne has sued former bandmate, guitarist Tony Iommi, over the group's name.
According to Reuters, Osbourne filed a lawsuit in New York accusing the guitarist that he falsely claimed that he was the sole owner of the Black Sabbath band name.
Chattahbox.com reports that the trademark is not legally owned by Iommi, according to court documents. There is no word on whether a hearing will be set or a settlement will be made. According to Metalunderground.com, Osbourne seeks 50 percent of ownership of a band name he had nothing to do with. However, Osbourne disbanded with Black Sabbath in the '80s and court documents point out that Black Sabbath's popularity dropped right after he left the band.
Osbourne was the lead singer of Black Sabbath and helped define the band's sound as a whole. Black Sabbath formed in 1968 in England and helped define the genre, Heavy Metal.
