Ozzy Osbourne Suing for Rights to Black Sabbath Title
Ozzy Osbourne is suing former Black Sabbath guitarist Tommy Iommi for half the rights of the band's name. According to the Associated Press, Osbourne stated that Iommi has also been illegally claiming all rights to the Black Sabbath label in recent arrangements with a company that sells the band's products.
The lawsuit was filed on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in New York. The suit states that Iommi had falsely made a profit for a number of years by claiming full rights to the band's name.
Osbourne stated that he was sorry he had resorted to taking the case to court over a disagreement with Iommi, which he claimed to have attempted to solve for three years, reported Reuters.
According to E! Online, the band's popularity dropped after Osbourne left from 1980 to 1986. After Osbourne's departure, Iommi still performed in clubs under the Black Sabbath name, according to Reuters.
The band's four members, including Osbourne, Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward came back together in 1997. Black Sabbath went on to being honored in the United Kingdom and United States Rock & Roll Hall of Fames in 2005 and 2006, reported Reuters.
