Palin on SNL - Rating Boom - Campaign Flop
With Gov. Sarah Palin appearing, Saturday Night Live scored its highest ratings in 14 years. The projected numbers are 14 million viewers, with over 17 million for the first half hour of the sketch comedy program.
Palin appeared in two sketches, the opening skit and on the Weekend Update segment, a news parody. During the opening skit, Palin watched Tine Fey on a monitor with Lorne Michaels, and a cast of celebrities. During Weekend Update, Palin bobbed her head at the desk while Amy Poehler performed a rap mocking her.
Chevy Chase, one of the original SNL cast members, told Access Hollywood, "Quite frankly, it's a big mistake to let her go on. . . . What was brilliant about ('SNL' chief) Lorne (Michaels) was that he had nothing written for Sarah and that apparently she cannot improvise herself out of a paper bag!"
With all this hoopla about Palin's great sense of humor, popular arts blog Slog asks a burning question: Why did NBC not negotiate a real interview with Palin as part of the deal?
