In an unusual distribution tactic, Paramount is rolling out indie-horror flick "Paranormal Activity" in a handful of college towns even before a release in New York or Los Angeles, the New York Times reports.
The small time feature has suddenly gotten huge Internet buzz and much word of mouth after a couple festival screenings, being called "the scariest movie of the decade." "Paranormal Activity'" was made for only $11,000 over a seven day shoot, and stars complete unknowns.
Paramount is trying to market the film by asking people to go to the film's website and request that it be screened in their city.
The film from first time director Oren Peli revolves around a couple who believes they are followed by evil spirits, and sets up a video camera in their bedroom to document any sightings.
The picture opens Friday in only 13 cities.
