Parents Television Council Calls MTV's 'Skins' Dangerous for Kids

Have they seen the 'Jersey Shore'?

The MTV series Skins is going to start on Monday, but the Parents Television Council is not happy about it. They said Thursday, “[It’s] the most dangerous show for teens.”

The show is actually based on a U.K. series, but that doesn’t put council members at ease. The Hollywood Reporter claims that the organization criticized Viacom and MTV for marketing the show to teens, despite its racy subject matter.

They also criticized the show’s trailer, saying it had “high school characters engaging in drug use and casual sex.” Well if you’ve seen the trailers, then you know that's accurate.

One of the female characters introduced in the trailer had her clothes on, unlike some of the others in just bras and skirts, but had an unidentified pill on her chest. The PTC claims the trailers made “sexual objects of almost every single one of its characters.”

PTC president Tim Winter elaborates, “Despite the MA-rating for Skins, MTV appears to be deliberately targeting teens with its marketing campaign. Skins may well be the most dangerous show for children that we have ever seen.”

They also aren’t fond of the show’s website, which asks people to “post the truth about the biggest parties, heartbreak, friends, sex, and every kind of trouble.”
