Parole Denied for John Lennon's Killer

Murderer of former Beatle member has been denied parole for the third time.

John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, was denied parole by the New York State Division of Parole for the murder of the famed Beatle member.

According to the three-member panel of the board their decision was "based on the extreme malicious intent you exhibited during the instant offense where you fired a handgun multiple times, striking your target - John Lennon."

The murder happened in New York at when Lennon was returning home on December 8, 1980. Chapman, 49, has been previously denied parole on two other occasions and is currently serving a 20 years to life sentence at the Attica Correctional Facility near Buffalo New York.

Yoko Ono, Lennon's widow, sent a letter to the Division of Parole stating that she remains afraid for the safety of herself and her children, Sean and Julian. Currently, there is an online petition started by fans of the late artist opposing Chapman's parole.

Chapman's next parole hearing is scheduled for 2006.
