Legendary musician Sir Paul McCartney was honored Thursday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Friends and fans, including fellow musicians Neil Young and Diana Krall, were on hand to honor McCartney, 69.
"Let me tell you a little bit about our friend Paul here just as a musician," Young said. "When I was in high school and the Beatles came out, I loved the Beatles and I tried to learn how to play like them, and no one could figure out what Paul was doing on the bass. Not only was he playing differently because he plays left-handed, he played notes that no one had put together before -- in a way that made us stand in awe of this great musician."
The other three Beatles-George Harrison, John Lennon and Ringo Starr-all have their own stars on the legendary sidewalk. McCartney thanked them when he addressed the crowd. He also revealed that Starr was ill and, thus, unable to attend the ceremony. The other two members, Lennon was murdered in 1980 and Harrison died of cancer in 2001.
McCartney’s honor also falls on the week which marks the 48th anniversary of the Beatles’ 1964 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show, which kicked off Beatlemania into high gear.
McCartney is set to perform at the Grammy Awards this Sunday.
