Paul McCartney, Oprah Winfrey, and Merle Haggard to be Recognized at Kennedy Center Honors

It has recently been announced that Paul McCartney, Oprah Winfrey, and Merle Haggard are among those being honored at the Kennedy Center Honors on December 5.

McCartney performed earlier this year in June for President Obama and the First Lady after winning the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. The British singer notes that Kennedy was an inspiration to him during the 60s, and he is extremely grateful to be accepting this honor.

McCartney was nominated before in 2002 for the Kennedy Center Honors, but had to decline due to family issues that would have conflicted with the ceremony.

As for the other honorees, Oprah Winfrey is quoted as saying she is honored to be nominated for this award and looks forward to the ceremony held on December 5.

Country singer Merle Haggard is simply shocked and astounded at his nomination with so many noted talents.

Also among the honorees is talented choreographer Bill T. Jones and Jerry Herman, a famed lyricist and Broadway composer.

Jones directed the Tony award-winning show, Fela! and is a noted AIDS awareness and gay rights activist.

Herman is the creator of Hello, Dolly! and Le Cage Aux Folles.
