Paul McCartney Will Return to Israel
Paul McCartney, 40 years after The Beatles were banned from playing in Israel, will reportedly return to Tel Aviv next month to play a show.
The 66-year-old musician will make his first ever appearance and performance in the Holy Land as a celebration of the 60-year anniversary for Israel. The performance is reportedly scheduled for Sept. 25, but the confirmation from the government has yet to be made.
McCartney and the other three members of The Beatles (two of which have since died) were banned from setting foot in Israel because the government felt that their lyrics could corrupt the youth of the nation.
But it obviously seems that the heads of Israel now see the mistakes of their predecessors.
"There is no doubt that it was a great missed opportunity to prevent people like you, who shaped the minds of the generation, to come to Israel and perform," Ron Prosor, Israel's ambassador said in letters to McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of George Harrison and John Lennon.
