Paula Abdul Leaves American Idol

Paula Abdul tweets she will not return to American Idol next season.

Paula Abdul was in talks with producers of American Idol for weeks when her contract expired at the end of last season. Earning $2 million, she hoped to negotiate a raise for the up coming ninth season.

One day after Fox announced Kara DioGuardi would return as a judge next season, Paula Abdul twittered, "With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to IDOL. I'll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 become an international phenomenon."

Fox Broadcasting quickly released this statement: "Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she's a tremendous talent and we wish her the best."
