Paula Abdul Quitting "Idol?"

Paula Abdul may quit "American Idol" after stalker commits suicide outside of her house.

Three weeks ago, a crazed fan committed suicide outside of American Idol judge Paula Abdul's house, and Abdul is having such a hard time recovering that she may quit American Idol, reported MSNBC. Abdul claimed in an interview with Barbara Walters that she told the show's producers not to allow Paula Goodspeed to enter the Idol competition, but that they did it anyway.

"It's fun for them to cause me stress," Abdul said. "This was something that would make good television."

Former American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe defended the show earlier this week in Us Magazine, saying, "None of us believed she posed any danger to Paula. Believe me, if we had, she wouldn't have been in the room. . . . This horrible thing happened outside her home. It's like she's saying, 'Don't blame me. It's not my fault.' And she's right. It's not anybody's fault. It's certainly not 'American Idol's' fault."

However, a friend of Abdul's claimed to MSNBC that Abdul already has a reality show on MTV and a jewelry line, and is seriously considering quitting. "She's got no reason to put herself through the stress of the show if she doesn't want to," the friend said. "She's all but done; and given her other successes, she has no reason to be afraid about speaking out now."
