Paula May Not Be Returning to Idol

It looks like there may be a lineup change next season for the judges of American Idol.

Paula Abdul's manager, David Sonenberg, recently told the Los Angeles Times that "it does not appear that [Paula's] going to be back on Idol" next season as the singer and judge has yet to receive a new contract from production companies 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia, which are behind the television show.

Auditions for season 9 of the nationwide singing contest begin on Aug. 6, and if Abdul were to be brought back, her contract would need to be signed by then.

Sonenberg has reached out to the production companies, saying that Paula is very interested in doing the show, but has supposedly received no proposal. Representatives from Fremantle, 19, and Fox declined to comment.

Idol host Ryan Seacrest just signed a three-year deal to remain on the show, reportedly worth $45 million.
