Pavarotti Hospitalized for Fever

Opera tenor reported in stable condition after fever scare.

Renowned tenor Luciano Pavarotti is under close observation at the Polyclinic in Modena, his hometown, after being hospitalized for a fever, reports The Times. The opera star was spending time at his vacation home in the seaside resort of Pesaro, on the Adriatic Sea, when his doctors discovered that the singer had developed a fever. They made a decision to admit Pavarotti to a hospital for further testing. He is reported to be in stable condition on Thursday.

Pavarotti underwent an operation in 2006 for pancreatic cancer. At the time, the tenor was preparing to depart from New York. His departure was delayed when doctors found a malignant pancreatic mass. Pavarotti's remaining 2006 performances on his farewell tour were canceled. Pancreatic cancer is one of the most dangerous forms of cancer, but it is hoped that the surgery that Pavarotti underwent will greatly enhance his chances of beating it. According to wife Nicoletta Mantovani in a newspaper interview, her husband is "fighting like a lion" and responding well to treatments. She reveals that her husband is actually considering once more holding the "Pavarotti and Friends" benefit concert that once was an annual event in his hometown of Modena.
