TBS has canceled George Lopez’s late night talk show, Lopez Tonight.
According to USA Today, the show was not receiving high enough ratings or costs to stay on the air.
Lopez Tonight has been on for a mere two seasons. The last episode is scheduled to air tomorrow night. Reruns of the show will be on for a few weeks and then repeats of The Office will take its place.
And who is to blame? TMZ reports that Conan O’Brien seems to be the cause of the problem. Lopez Tonight used to air at 11 p.m., but when O’Brien took that slot with his talk show, he left Lopez’s show to air directly after O’Brien’s, at midnight, which decreased Lopez’s ratings by 40%.
O’Brien typically receives much higher ratings and views. Just this week, O’Brien received around 715,000 viewers, while Lopez’s audience was around 400,000.
