Penny Marshall pens book deal with Amazon

By Deborah Kim,

Celebrities are always writing books and landing on the New York Times best seller lists, but this filmmaker/actress is doing something new.

According to The Associated Press, Marshall enlisted a novel publishing scheme. Her book's publishing house is none other than online mega store Amazon.com. Titled My Mother Was Nuts, the book will be released next fall.

"I can't say I'm excited about the Yankees losing, or there not being a basketball season yet, but I am excited about writing this book," she said.

"People have always asked me how I got from the Bronx to Hollywood, so I thought it was time to tell how it all happened. I have had many lives —not in the Shirley MacLaine sense — and you will hear about them all. Just don't expect any recipes. I don't cook."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the book will be released in both a hardcover and digital version. Marshall's agent, Dan Strone, said Amazon wasn't the only company vying for the memoir's publishing rights, but it if offered "a lot" and agreed to give Marshall more than the 25 percent most publishers offer on e-books.

Strone added the book will include stories about the Laverne and Shirley star's battle with lung and brain cancer, her relationship with ex-husband Rob Reiner, and friendship with John Belushi.
