Perry and Tolan Team Up for Showtime Pilot
A pilot cowritten and coproduced by Matthew Perry and Peter Tolan (of FX's Rescue Me) has been picked up by Showtime.
The network, who's becoming known for its dark programming, picked up another program of a similar ilk from the duo. The project - titled The End of Steve - will also star Perry as the main character, "an egomaniacal, local talk show host who is on a reluctant path to redemption," according to the Hollywood Reporter.
This pilot will not affect Tolan's status with Rescue Me, which will air mini-sodes this summer because the writers' strike prevented them preparing their fifth season for this summer.
"Tolan and Perry, a twisted match made in heaven!" Showtime President of Entertainment Robert Greenblatt said. "I've been trying to get into business with Peter Tolan for literally 20 years, so my persistence finally paid off. And I couldn't be happier than to have him cocreating this bitingly funny character with Matthew Perry, who seems born to play this character better than anyone I can think of."
