'Pet Sematary' Reboot
Matthew Greenberg, who wrote the script for the big-screen version of the Stephen King thriller 1408, is returning to script the reboot of a more iconic King novel, 'Pet Sematary.' Greenberg also has written a few other horror/fantasy films, including 'Haloween H20,' 'The Prophecy II' and Reign of Fire.'
According to The Hollywood Reporter, no cast members announced as of yet, but Lorenzo di Bonaventura has just signed on to be a producer along with Steven Schneider. Di Bonaventura also produced the Transformers movies, as well as G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Doom and Constantine. Schneider was an executive producer behind the phenomenon Paranormal Activity. He also has more than ten movies currently in development.
The novel, published in 1983, tells of a family who moves out to the boondocks of Maine in order to find some peace and quiet. An old man tells them that nearby there is pet cemetery that was put over an ancient burial ground, and that there is something seriously creepy going on there. The old Maine man tells them of his dog, who died when he was a boy. They buried the dog in the cemetery, and he came back to life. But it wasn't the same dog anymore. It was possessed by a vengeful spirit. When the family's only son dies in an auto accident, the father, knowing of the old man's tale, desperately tries to resurrect his boy, with chilling results.
The original film came out in 1989 and starred Dale Midkiff, Denise Crosby and Fred Gwynne.
Paramount is making the film.
