Octavia Spencer’s acceptance speech may have been one of the most inspirational and timely of Sunday night’s Golden Globes ceremony, but hands-down Peter Dinklage had the most trending.
The Daily Telegraph reported that the Game of Thrones actor and Globes winner for best supporting actor in a TV series, miniseries, or movie, ended his speech talking about a man named Martin Henderson, and suggesting that listeners “Google him.”
Within minutes the British dwarf became a trending topic on Twitter and soon millions knew about his horrific story.
According to the UK’s Daily Mail, the 37-year-old dwarf became partially paralyzed after he was attacked by a random stranger outside a pub on October 7 last year.
"I was at the back of the pub outside and the next thing I know I'm suddenly in the air and someone has got hold of me," Henderson said. "A man just approached, lifted me up and dropped me. He didn't say anything."
He added that he believes the attack was inspired by a “dwarf-tossing” event that some members of England’s national rugby team participated in.
The event was called “Mad Midget Weekend” and was held during the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand last year. Several of the players were seen downing shots and getting piss drunk, resulting in their poor performance at the Cup’s opening match the next day.
Henderson says he has yet to receive an apology from the ruby team and that he could’ve had a successful career if he hadn’t been injured.
