Phil Spector Sentencing Today
Famous "Wall of Sound" music producer, Phil Spector, will be sentenced today (May 29). He faces a second-degree-murder sentence of actress Lana Clarkson.
According to CNN.com, Judge Larry Paul Fidler is required by California law to order Spector to be sentenced for at least 18 years before he is eligible for parole. There is also the possibility that up to 10 years will be added to his sentence.
The Associated Press reported that Spector had two similar trials. His first in 2007 was a mistrial when jurors said they couldn't reach a verdict. By the second trial in 2008 the jury made a decision.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Spector's defense will appeal the conviction even though his lawyer did not file a motion to set aside the verdict and grant a new trial. The defense has maintained that the shooting of Clarkson, through the roof of her mouth, was a suicide.
Spector's chauffeur is the key witness who said that he heard a gunshot and saw Spector come into sight holding a gun saying, "I think I killed somebody."
