Phillies' Lidge to undergo surgery

Brad Lidge will undergo elbow surgery to remove a "loose body"

The Philadelphia Daily News reports that Phillies' closer Brad Lidge is scheduled to have surgery on his throwing elbow on Wednesday.

Nationals vs. Phillies

Lidge is scheduled to have a "loose body" removed. Outfielder Raul Ibanez and reliever Scott Eyre are also scheduled for surgery.

The news may explain Lidge's struggles throughout the season which continued into the postseason.

Lidge blew a major league leading 11 saves, while posting a 7.21 ERA in the regular season.Lidge also struggled in the World Series, giving up 3 earned runs in the 9th inning of game 4.

Last season Lidge did not blow a single save the entire season, going a perfect 42-42 in the regular season.

Dr. Michael Ciccotti will perform the procedure on both Lidge and Eyre. Eyre will have a similar procedure to Lidge, as he has loose bodies in his left elbow.

This injury is not considered to be serious and should not affect Lidge or Eyre heading into next season.
