Talented Choreographer Passes On

Pina Busch, the choreographer of Tanztheater, a German dance form, has died at 68.According to Theatermania.com, she died in Wuppertal, Germany.

Ms. Busch was born in 1940 in Solingen, Germany and educated at the famous Folkwang School. After graduating high school in 1959 she became a special student at Julliard in New York. She was mentored by Kurt Jooss, a German Expressionist choreographer, and Antony Tudor, an English choreographer of "psychological ballet."

According to the New York Times, she was known for her works of showing men and women engaged in power struggles. She frequently brought work to the Brooklyn Academy of Music that combined expressionistic dance performance in theatrical modes.

She had recently been diagnosed with cancer but continued to work. According to Wnyc.org, she was an immense influence on the art of dance. She debuted in 1984 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, making a great impression. Her inventive dance theater became wider known after it was featured in the Oscar-winning film "Talk to Her."
