Pineapple Express Buzzing of Success

The new film, "Pineapple Express," teams together two famous writers.

The writers and executive producers of the films, Superbad and Knocked Up, will hit the big screen again this summer with the release of Pineapple Express on Aug. 6.

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg wrote the screenplay for Express in which Rogen also stars.

Express follows Dale Denton (Rogen), a pot-smoking nine-to-fiver and his dealer, Saul Silver (James Franco), as they run from the bad guys after Dale witnesses a murder and leaves a rare brand of marijuana, called Pineapple Express, at the scene.

The film's subject matter seems to be drawing some attention as both Rogen and Franco have addressed the issue of what was actually smoked on set.

"They had this pot with the THC removed," Franco said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "Sort of like near beer. Or decaffeinated coffee."

"We didn't get high on this set," Rogen said in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. "We smoked this s--- called Wizard Smoke. It's like the nonalcoholic weed. The O'Doul's of weed. I didn't like it."

Regardless of what was inhaled on set, the sales of Express should be rather "high," considering the track record of Rogen and Goldberg.

According to IMDb.com, in the summer of 2007, Superbad earned more than $33 million in its first weekend and grossed almost $122 million overall. Knocked Up, also released in summer 2007, grossed nearly $31 million its opening weekend and amassed over $148 million in total sales in the U.S. alone.

Rogen's next project, entitled Zack and Miri Make a Porno, is a romantic comedy directed by Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma) and costarring, Elizabeth Banks.

James Franco's next movie, Nights in Rodanthe, is based on the Nicholas Sparks novel and costars Richard Gere and Diane Lane.
