Pink Floyd To Keep Concept Albums Conceptual

EMI ordered to stop selling Pink Floyd singles.

Victory scored for Pink Floyd, who on Thursday was on the winning side of a court battle against longtime record label EMI. According to Reuters, A British High Court ruled that the label could sell no more singles from any of Pink Floyd's concept albums on the internet.

A lawyer for the band argued on Tuesday in front of Judge Andrew Morritt in London that EMI had breached their contract with Pink Floyd. According to the lawyer, the contract prohibited taking any of their concept albums apart, "unbundling", or reconfiguring any of the songs other than in their original release status- meaning The Wall, Wish You Were Here or any of their other concept albums had to be sold intact. From the perspective of an artist, it could be argued that taking a concept album apart would be like taking pieces away from a single piece of work.

According to Reuters, Morritt stated that the contract was created with the intention to "preserve the artistic integrity of the albums."

EMI stated, "We're huge fans of Pink Floyd, whose great catalog we have been representing for more than 40 years, and continue to represent exclusively and internationally."
