Pirates sequel to pass $1 billion mark
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest will join the ranks of "Titanic" and "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the Kings" as the only three movies to gross $1 billion worldwide in box office sales, according to officials at Disney.
According to E! Online, officials at Disney expect the "Pirates" sequel to pass the coveted mark Friday. What is surprising is about 60 percent, or $581.5 million, has come from foreign sales. The movie grossed $414 million in U.S. box offices.
There is also no sign of the movie to slow down in its money making. The movie has yet to open in all planned markets including Italy; Italians will be able to see the film beginning Sept. 15.
In order to become the top grossing film of all-time, "Pirates" would need to gross $830 million more to suppress the $1.83 billion "Titanic" grossed.
