Pitt and Wahlberg Reportedly to Star in New Boxing Film

New film will star Pitt and Wahlberg as boxing half-brothers.

Brad Pitt is in negotiations to play half-brother to Mark Wahlberg in the Paramount Pictures film, "The Fighter." Based on the true story of Massachusetts boxing hero Micky Ward, the film will follow Ward's dream of winning a world title in his division. Wahlberg will play Micky Ward, while Pitt will take on the role of his older half sibling, Dickie Ecklund. Ecklund is a washed up ex-boxer who, after spending time in prison, decides to mentor his younger brother in the world of boxing.

The part of Ecklund was originally given to Matt Damon, who was rumored to drop the role because of a heavy work load. Scott Silver, who penned "8 Mile," is working the most recent draft of the screenplay, while "Requiem for a Dream" director Darren Aronosfky is on board. There is no word yet on other cast members.
