Pitt, Spielberg Support "No on 8"
Proposition 8 will hit the California ballot this November, and if approved, it would render same sex marriages unconstitutional. However, many of Hollywood's finest are joining in the fight against Proposition 8, by supporting the "No on 8" campaign.
Just last week, Brad Pitt donated $100,000 towards "No on 8." Pitt said in a statement, "Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8."
Steven Spielberg and wife Kate Capshaw follow the equal rights suit against Proposition 8, announcing that they will match the donation made by Pitt to the "No on 8" campaign, E! Online reported.
"By writing discrimination into our state constitution, Proposition 8 seeks to eliminate the right of each and every citizen in our state to marry regardless of sexual orientation," Spielberg and Capshaw said in a statement, according to E! Online. "Such discrimination has NO place in California's constitution, or any other."
So far, supporters of the ban have raised more money than the "No on 8" group, $16.2 million to $10.8 million, respectively. However, polls show Californians are moving against the amendment prohibiting same-sex marriages, E! Online reported.
