Polanski to be under house arrest

After being released from prison on bail, Roman Polanski will be placed under house arrest.

Roman Polanski will be released into house arrest by Swiss authorities on Friday. ABC News reports that Polanski will be transferred to Gstaad first, and then to his Swiss chalet later that day.

Polanski pleaded guilty to one count of sex with a minor in 1977, but fled the US before the case was finished. He was then arrested by the US when he flew into Switzerland in September of this year. He could spend two years in a US prison if he is extradited.

The Swiss court agreed to let Polanski out of prison for a 4.5 million dollar bail fee, reports the LA Times. As he is moved out of prison, he will be monitored by an electronic security system. While he is under house arrest, he will be allowed to make any phone calls he wants, though they will be monitored, use the Internet, and invite people over.
