Roman Polanski could make his way back to the U.S.

After the Swiss court rejected Polanski's appeal to be released from jail to be put under house arrest, he might come back to the U.S. to face charges.

Polanski was accused of having sex with a thirteen year old girl back in 1977, and when he was set to be sentenced in 1978 after a plea bargain he fled the country and has been living on the lam ever since. The 76 year old Oscar winning director was arrested at the Zurich airport in Switzerland at the end of last month. He was there to accept an award at the Zurich film festival, for his outstanding work as a director.

Since September 26, Polanski has been held up in a Swiss jail, where he is currently fighting requests by the U.S. government to extradite him back there for sentencing. Since he fled the U.S. back in 1978, Polanski and his legal team have been refusing any request to face the charges brought against him.

Polanski has a dual French-Polish citizenship, two places that do not abide with the U.S. extradition policies. George Kiejman, a lawyer for Polanski stated that "If this process drags on, it is not completely impossible that Roman Polanski could choose to go finally to explain himself in the United States where the arguments in his favor exist" as reported on NYTimes.com. The process Kiejman is speaking of is the constant denial of any plea with the Swiss courts.
