After claiming fame on the hit CW show, "Gilmore Girls," Alexis Bledel went on to big screen success in the "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" films, but her latest film venture, "Post Grad," is only getting mediocre reviews.
In "Post Grad," Bledel plays recent college graduate Ryden Malby, a girl who wants to work at a major L.A. publishing house, but is forced to move back in with her quirky family when she doesn't get hired. By the end of the film, Ryden predictably realizes that her childhood friend, Adam, is the man of her dreams.
Canada.com calls the film "amusingly odd" and an "inconsequential lark," while the Globe and Mail compares Bledel's performance to a "new wave Sandra Bullock."
The film, directed by Vicky Jenson and written by Kelly Fremon, does feature several big names, including Michael Keaton and Jane Lynch as Ryden's father and mother, and Carol Burnett as her kooky grandmother. But all the big names in Hollywood can't save this movie in critics' eyes.
MSNBC goes so far as to call the film's message "misogynistic," a sentiment echoed by many reviewers. While the film's concept the difficulty faced by college graduates trying to find jobs in this economy could have been timely, its depthless plot and leading lady who would rather have a man than a job makes it what MSNBC calls "a chick flick that hates chicks."
"Post Grad" hits theaters Friday.
