President Obama to Announce $1.25 Billion Rail System in Tampa
According to the Miami Herald, President Barack Obama is primed to host a town hall meeting later today in Tampa, Florida to unveil a $1.25 billion plan to implement a high-speed rail system that will stretch from Orlando to Miami. As of December, the unemployment rate in Florida had risen to a staggering 11.8 percent and his arrival in the state on Thursday will occur just one day after his State of the Union address where he emphasized the importance of job creation.
Florida Governor Charlie Crist, who was widely criticized by conservative Republican politicians for his decision to stand beside Obama when he campaigned in the state, released a statement on Wednesday that indicated how eager he is to voice his opinion in regards to a plethora of pressing issues.
Crist’s statement reads, “I look forward to seeing the president tomorrow to tell him myself the direction I believe our country should move toward. A commitment to lower taxes for families and small businesses, to stop out-of-control federal spending, to provide a real solution to the growing unemployment rate and to put an end to a government-run healthcare plan.''
The high-speed rail system that President Obama intends on announcing at today’s town hall meeting is supported by elected officials from both the Democratic and Republican Parties.
