President Obama is scheduled to hold rallies in California and Nevada on Friday in an attempt to boost enthusiasm amongst Democratic voters and help Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.). According to The Washington Post, Obama is taking part in a four-day, five-state, six-city campaign tour to protect the Democratic Party’s Senate majority.
After attending a luncheon fundraiser for Boxer and former governor Jerry Brown in Los Angeles, he is slated to join a Democratic rally at the University of Southern California’s Alumni Park. When the afternoon rally concludes, he will fly to Nevada to participate in two more events.
Obama will be in attendance for an evening fundraiser held for Reid and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee after headlining a Democratic National Committee rally at a Nevada middle school.
In the polls, Boxer and Brown currently hold slight leads over their respective GOP opponents, Carly Fiorina and Mark Whitman, but the gap is closing and the races are perceived to be very close.
The race between Boxer and Fiorina in California is particularly crucial in deciding control of the entire U.S. Senate, Mercury News reports.
Three election handicappers are predicting that the race in California is one of a handful around the country that will “determine whether Democrats retain power in the Senate or cede it to Republicans.”
